Pastor, playwright, motivational speaker and HBCU
college tour sponsor, Rev. Kelcey A. West was born on February 12, 1971 in Pontiac, Michigan. His parents, Mack and Sandra
West and grandparents, Howard and Helen LaGrone, taught him Christian family values and motivational skills at an early age.
A 1996 graduate of UNLV (after being expelled in 1991),
has been speaking and performing before large audiences since the age of 8. In 1992, he founded 32nd Street Theater, a non-profit
theater company. His theatrical credits as a self-taught playwright, director and actor include "Two Sided Coins",
"A Gift Called Tomorrow", "Quiet Time To Play", and "If This World Were Mine – A Theatrical
Tribute to the Music Of Marvin Gaye." In 1993, he developed the now annual “Unity Through Knowledge” HBCU
Tour during his junior year of college.
Ironically, it
was during the 1998 tour, in Montgomery, Alabama, when he received and began fulfilling his call to the ministry. More than
1100 students from the Las Vegas area have participated in the week long Spring Break college preparatory program. As an aspiring
motivational speaker, he is best known for transforming fairytales such as "The Three Little Pigs“, “Humpy
Dumpty” and "Goldilocks and The Three Bears" into modern day business plans for high school students.
His professional experience includes serving as a Marketing Manager for such
companies as Ultrazone, Coca-Cola and United Blood Services. “The reason I desire to motivate high school students is
because my greatest regret in high school was being voted “Most Popular” by my peers while not being selected
for the National Honor Society by my teachers. I had the expectation, potential and the foundational support to be a valedictorian,
but something happened (peer pressure) in between the 6th grade and the start of high school that would change my life forever.”
